GAME DEVELOPMENTS

So yesterday I went up to Gt. Missenden again to talk to the museum curator and education advisor, with the idea of some sort of outdoor game for the courtyard of the museum. They were very positive about this idea and here is what came out of it.

The game should be somethng that doesn't take much (if any) adult coaching, so the idea of something like Snakes and Ladders or Pictionary came up.

If we go for Snakes and Ladders as a basic idea for a game style, I would have to incorporate lots of Roald Dahl things (such as characters for the game pieces and events for the board) as well as have SOME sort of story telling 'vibe' to it.

(I have been given a set of quiz questions that were created for last years Roald Dahl day, so I can use those as the story telling/narrative element.

I would have to create a life size, outdoor game board, playing pieces, dice, etc.

The good thing about this project is that the Museum, (who just won the award for Best Small Attraction in England) is going to be having a roadshow type thing and appearing at Wychwood Festival 2008 and would be really interested in taking the game with them.

They also asked if I could possibly design (from the large ourdoor version,) a smaller board game version as well as a version to play online to go on their website.

DEVELOPMENTS

So it has been a WHILE since i last posted, but as it stands I am doing my FMP in conjunction with the Roald Dahl Museum.

Last week i gave a presentation of my work/ideas so far, which didn't go off too well, but I am now working on new ideas and solutions.

I spoke to the museum curator about the stamping machine, (original idea,) which I did really think was a bit too little work for me, since it was just revamping an original design. She said I could do the stamping machine after college AND my project if I wanted to.

My new idea, after presenting last thursday is something for the courtyard of the museum.

I was in Amsterdam last week and while I was there I saw people playing those oversized chess sets, which gave me an idea of some sort of outdoor game that involved Roald Dahl characters. I'm not sure about the ins and outs yet, but I wanted to know what people thought, before I embarrassed myself again by re-presenting my work. (which I am happy to do.)

Another idea was some sort of landmark for the museum, since they don't really have one and it doesn't really stand out as an attraction or museum. I was thinking of something like a 16 foot BFG (Big Friendly Giant) or some other character from his books... but that would need planning permission and one HELL of a model maker.

What do people think?
